Hell Maiden enters Steam Early Access on July 16, 2026, from developer AstralShift. This horde survival deck-builder inspired by Dante's Divine Comedy launches with two full Circles of Hell — Limbo and Lust — four Poets of Limbo, 40+ abilities, and the opening narrative arc. This guide covers everything new and returning players need for launch week.
Early Access Launch Details
Hell Maiden releases on Steam Early Access on July 16, 2026. The initial EA version includes the Limbo and Lust Circles of Hell, representing the first two circles in Dante's Inferno. AstralShift plans approximately one year or more in Early Access before the full 1.0 release with all nine Circles of Hell.
The launch build features four playable Poets: Dante (default), Virgil (unlocked after two Limbo runs), Horace (rescued on third Limbo run), and Homer and Ovid (unlocked through Lust questlines). Each Poet adds unique Weapon and Mod Cards to the level-up pool.
Hell Maiden supports English, Spanish, Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Japanese at launch. Interface and subtitles are available for all listed languages.
Demo vs Early Access: What Changes
The Hell Maiden demo covered Limbo with a limited card pool and one Poet rescue quest. Demo progress does not transfer to Early Access — all unlocks, quest completions, and run history reset. Returning demo players start fresh but bring mechanical knowledge that accelerates progression.
Early Access adds the entire Lust Circle with its own enemies, map, environmental hazards, Libicocco boss, and poet questlines. The card pool expands significantly with Homer's epic-themed weapons and Ovid's transformation Miracle and Curse cards.
Quality-of-life improvements from demo feedback include expanded Charm reroll visibility, improved mini-map temple icons, and balance adjustments to Mod Card merge values. See Early Access Release Information for the full changelog.
- Demo — Limbo only, limited cards, no Lust, progress does not transfer
- Early Access — Limbo + Lust, 4+ Poets, 40+ abilities, full launch narrative
- Full release — All nine Circles of Hell, planned 1+ year after EA launch
Recommended Launch-Week Progression Path
Run 1: Learn controls and Limbo's wave timeline with Dante. Do not worry about beating Minos — focus on understanding card selection, Mod merging, and the level-up screen. Read the How to Play guide before starting.
Run 2: Unlock Virgil's deck. Experiment with star-themed cards on run 3. Begin learning Limbo's fire trap safe zones at 5:35 and 10:05. Consult the Limbo Traps guide.
Run 3: Attempt the Horace rescue quest at 3:30. Even if you fail, you learn the northern map route. Beat Minos when your build is ready — see How to Beat Minos.
Run 4+: Enter Lust after your first Minos victory. Unlock Homer and Ovid through Lust questlines. Challenge Libicocco with burst damage builds. The Lust Walkthrough covers the second Circle.
Core Systems to Master in Early Access
Spirit Cards form the foundation: four Weapon Card slots with three Mod Card slots each, five Mod types (Boost, Effect, Spread, Miracle, Curse), and merge-to-level-3 mechanics. The Spirit Cards guide is essential reading.
Charms from Beatrice appear at odd levels from level 7, stacking to level 10 with three rerolls per run. Temple buffs across Limbo and Lust maps provide run-lasting and timed bonuses. Items and spell tokens supplement card-based power.
The Deck Builder tool lets you plan weapon layouts and Spread adjacency before entering a run, while the Tier List ranks cards for current meta effectiveness.
