The Forum is Hell Maiden's central hub in Limbo — where virtuous poets reside after death and Dante returns between every run, whether she succeeds or fails. AstralShift modeled the Forum after the Roman Forum of antiquity, blending Divine Comedy lore with stage selection, weapon switching, and story cutscenes that advance the Early Access narrative toward Paradiso.
Hub Role Between Runs
Every Limbo or Lust attempt ends with Dante returning to the Forum. Failed runs and victorious clears both trigger hub visits — poet unlocks, quest completions, and narrative flags persist permanently even when cards and charms reset.
Story cutscenes fire in the Forum after key milestones: first Minos defeat, Horace rescue, poet introductions, and Lust progression beats. Dialogue differs depending on whether Dante won or lost her last attempt, giving repeated visits narrative variety.
New players should treat the Forum as a planning screen — review unlocked Poets, select your next Circle, and read fresh dialogue before committing to another twelve-minute survival timer.
Poets of Limbo and Dialogue
Rescued Poets — Virgil, Horace, Homer, and Ovid — gather in the Forum after their rescue quests complete. Each subsequent run unlocks new dialogue options commenting on Dante's progress, poet backstories, and the mystery of her memory loss.
Virgil appears from the first run as Dante's guide. Horace joins after the third-run Limbo rescue quest. Homer and Ovid arrive through Lust Circle progression in Early Access. Forum conversations connect individual poet pages to the overarching plot arc.
Beatrice and Dante exchanges also reference Forum events — see Beatrice and Dante character guides for voice acting and relationship context.
Signature Weapon Pedestal
The central pedestal lets Dante switch Signature Weapons before entering a Circle. Your Signature Card defines your default attack pattern and cannot be removed from the four-weapon hand during runs.
Early Access unlocks additional Signature options as poets join your roster. Weapon selection affects which Mod Cards appear in level-up drafts — fire signatures pair with Dante pool mods, star signatures with Virgil, and so on.
Plan signature swaps alongside the Deck Builder and Poets deck overview before difficult boss attempts.
Circle Selection Archways
Archways around the Forum map serve as stage selectors for each Circle of Hell. Early Access opens Limbo from the first run and Lust after defeating Minos at least once.
The demo version limited the Forum to Limbo only. Early Access adds Lust archway access, expanded narrative, and additional poets unavailable in the October 2025 Steam Next Fest build.
Future Early Access updates will unlock archways for the remaining seven Inferno circles toward the planned 1.0 release with all nine Circles and Endless Mode.
Offering Door and Divine Comedy Inscription
Toward the back of the Forum, a large pit contains a floating door prompting Dante to "make an offering." The door displays the inscription lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'intrate — "abandon all hope, ye who enter here" — the same words on Hell's gates in Dante's Inferno.
The offering mechanic was visible in the demo but activates only in the full Early Access client. AstralShift has not fully documented offering rewards — expect future patches to expand this system.
