Hell Maiden's tutorial covers movement and card picks, but several systems only become obvious after multiple Limbo and Lust runs — or from community guides like the popular "10 Things the Game DOESN'T Tell You" video circulating in launch week. This wiki guide documents the most important hidden rules AstralShift never spells out in-game, verified against Early Access v0.2.32 behavior as of July 22, 2026.
1. Failed Runs Still Advance Unlocks
Losing to Minos, dying during the Horace rescue quest, or failing a Lust attempt still counts toward poet unlocks and narrative flags. Virgil's deck appears after two completed Limbo attempts — success or failure both qualify. Do not restart the game or abandon runs early thinking progress was wasted.
Only rescued poets, completed quests, and boss perks persist between runs. Cards, charms, and temporary temple buffs reset — but run count and story milestones do not.
2. Spread Mod Placement Is a Hidden Damage Multiplier
Spread-type Mod Cards buff adjacent weapons in your four-slot hand, not every weapon globally. Slot 2 Spread mods can double the output of slots 1 and 3 if you plan layout before accepting offers.
The level-up screen shows hand order left to right. Before picking a Spread mod, check which neighbors benefit — a common mistake is placing Spread on an outer slot with only one neighbor. See deck-building guide and Deck Builder for spatial planning.
3. Beatrice Charms Appear Only at Odd Levels
Beatrice offers Charms starting at level 7, then every odd level: 9, 11, 13, and so on. Even levels (8, 10, 12) are card-only picks with no charm option — plan your weapon foundation in levels 1–6 before charms enter the mix.
You receive three rerolls per run for unwanted charm offers. Use rerolls on bad stat padding rather than accepting Attack Speed when you need Elite Slayer for Limbo elites.
4. Boss Perks Are Permanent — Cards Are Not
Defeating Minos, Scarmiglione, and Libicocco each grants two permanent abilities for all future runs. These boss perks stack and never reset — unlike Weapon Cards, Mod Cards, and charms that wipe every attempt.
Prioritize learning boss patterns even on doomed runs. A failed Minos attempt that teaches dodge timing still moves you toward permanent power. Full perk list context on Early Access info.
5. Tab Opens the Mini-Map for Quest Markers
Rescue quests for Horace (Limbo, ~3:30 trigger) and Homer (Lust) spawn map markers visible on the mini-map via Tab. The game rarely highlights this during the tutorial — missing the marker causes failed rescue timers.
Temple locations and elite spawn zones also appear on the mini-map. Route planning beats raw DPS for quest deadlines.
6. Merge Duplicate Mods Before Adding New Ones
Duplicate Mod Cards merge into a single slot and level up to level 3 maximum. A level 3 Boost mod often outperforms three separate level 1 mods spread across weapons.
Skip mediocre third weapons if merging your core two weapons to level 2–3 would increase output more. Spread placement makes "four weak weapons" worse than "two strong weapons with Spread support."
7. Lust Circle Requires Beating Minos First
The Forum hub hides Lust archway access until you defeat Minos at least once. Demo players only saw Limbo — Early Access adds Lust but gates it behind the Limbo finale.
You do not need a flawless Minos kill. Survive the twelve-minute timer, enter the boss arena, and eventually secure the victory that unlocks the second Circle.
8. The Forum Offering Door Is Visible but Inactive
The floating door with lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'intrate inscription appears in the Forum but has no functional offering mechanic in v0.2.32. Demo players saw the same prop — AstralShift may activate it in a future content patch.
Do not waste runs searching for offering rewards. Focus on poet rescues and boss perks documented on the Forum hub guide.
10. Update Before Libicocco — Clone Bug Was Fixed Day One
Launch-day players could softlock after defeating Libicocco during her clone attack. v0.2.31 fixed this July 16 — v0.2.32 followed July 17 with achievement and UI fixes. Verify Steam updated before attempting the Lust finale.
If progression still stalls after updating, verify file integrity through Steam and report on AstralShift Discord with build version (v0.2.32+) attached.
11. Steam Achievements Need v0.2.32+
Several Steam achievements — including Essence of Poet IV and related poet progression trophies — failed to unlock correctly on launch-day builds. Hot Fix Patch 2 (v0.2.32, July 17) fixed achievement tracking alongside localization font rendering.
If trophies appear stuck, verify Steam updated to v0.2.32+, then retry unlock conditions on a fresh run. The opening cinematic accidental skip bug (also fixed in v0.2.32) could interrupt narrative flags some achievements depend on.
